Inspired by historical Anishinaabe items such as bags as well as jackets from the late 1700s and early 1800s with Indigenous-European flair, and materials like walnut-dyed hides, red paint, rich velvets, and leather, I came up with designs that would appeal to flamboyant Anishinaabe butches and tomboys. The garments include features such as ribbons, studs, fringe, and jingles.
