The National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center (NIWRC) reached out to me to create illustrations for two related resources that NIWRC released for “Reconnecting with Native Teachings and Creating Healing Spaces with and for 2S+/LGBTQ+ Victim-Survivors of Domestic Violence,” comprised of a toolkit for family and friends of two-spirit people, and also a summary of conversations with two-spirit people. The cover was a collaborative design between me and Zinaida Carroll, NIWRC staff. She had done the background and came up with the concept of having multiple figures. With these illustrations, it was important to me to work with concepts of love and empowerment to show what positive community looks like for two-spirit/LGBTQ Natives.
