The New Mexico Department of Affairs selected me as one of their artists for their 2022 coloring book. For the letter H, I chose to creatively depict a hummingbird in motion using heavy linework, which is commonly used by Anishinaabe and Cree artists working in the Woodland Art style. At the center of the hummingbird is a heartline, an ancient convention seen in Anishinaabe art as well as in the art of Southwest tribal nations.
